What is airbrush tanning?
Airbrush tanning is a method of applying a tanning solution to the skin using a fine mist spray. The solution contains DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which reacts with the skins outer layer to create a natural looking tan without UV exposure.
How long does an airbrush tan last?
An airbrush tan usually lasts between 7-12 days, depending on your skin type, aftercare routine, and how often your skin naturally exfoliates. Using safe moisturizers and avoiding long showers or exfoliating can help extend the tan.
Is airbrush tanning safe?
Yes, airbrush tanning is considered safe as it doesn’t involve harmful UV rays. The active ingredient, DHA, only reacts with the skins outermost layer of the skin and does not penetrate into deeper layers. However, It’s important to ensure proper ventilation during application to avoid inhaling any chemicals. We do offer nose plugs if wanting to use them.
How do I prepare for an airbrush tan?
To prepare for an airbrush tan, exfoliate your skin 8-24 hours before your session to remove dead skin cells. We suggest shaving now, rather than right after your spray tan. Shaving is a form of skin exfoliation. Avoid using lotions, oils or deodorant on the day of your appointment and or right after you have exfoliated, as these can create a barrier and prevent the tanning solution from adhering evenly.
What should I wear during my airbrush tan?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in during the session, from a swimsuit to underwear, or you can opt to tan nude. Keep in mind that whatever you wear will create tan lines, so choose your clothing based on your preferences. The solutions will wash out of most darker clothing. Glow Getterz also offers free disposables.
How long does the tanning session take?
The airbrush tanning process usually takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the coverage area. This includes drying time after the application.
When can I shower after an airbrush tan?
Since airbrush tanning is customizable, it is best to wait to hear from the technician your exact wash time. It can be anywhere from 2-8 hours. Avoid using harsh soaps, scrubbing or exfoliating in the shower to preserve your tan.
Can I workout after an airbrush tan?
It’s best to avoid strenuous exercise and sweating for at least 24 hours after your airbrush tan. Sweat can cause streaks and uneven fading, especially if your tan hasn’t fully set.
Will airbrush tanning turn me orange?
No, modern airbrush tanning solutions are designed to give a natural, even tan. The key is to choose a salon with high-quality products. If you have very fair skin, we may suggest a lighter solution if you’re wanting a more natural result.
How should I care for my tan afterwards?
To care for your airbrush tan, moisturize your skin daily (with a spray tan safe product of course) to keep it hydrated and prevent premature fading. Avoid exfoliating scrubs, long baths and chlorinated pools as these can cause your tan to fade more quickly.
Can I get an airbrush tan if I’m pregnant?
Many salons (Glow Getterz is one of them) offer pregnancy-safe tanning solutions that do not contain harmful ingredients. However, it’s always best to consult with your healthcare provider before getting an airbrush tan during pregnancy.
Will airbrush tanning protect me from sunburns?
No, airbrush tanning does not provide any sun protection. You should still apply spray tan safe sunscreen when outdoors, as the tan only affects the surface of your skin and does not block UV rays.
